Whop Donuts!

I don't normally fix breakfast around here.  For the most part, that is the girls' department.  But I have been known on occasion to "surprise" everyone and do something extra special.  Give me a cup of coffee and I'm good to go!  I like to eat breakfast food better at supper.  Anyway, this morning was one of those "surprise" mornings.  I made some "home-made WHOP donuts".  Do I have your curiosity piqued?  Well, there's not much to it, but they are good and your kids will think your just plain awesome for making them!
  • Whop* biscuits  (store-bought biscuits in the refrigerator section)
  • oil
  • powdered sugar
  • cinnamon and sugar
Pour oil into pan (fill at least 3/4 inch deep).  Let oil get HOT and then turn it down to about 3 (low-medium) and don't add the biscuits until it has had time to adjust to temperature or they will burn on the outside and be gooey on the inside.... You can always test one out first.  I only cook a couple at a time so that I can keep up with them.  Cook on both sides until nice and brown, then roll in powdered sugar or cinnamon and sugar.  Apple butter is really good on them too.  Serve while hot!

*whop - it's always been a joke in our family, meaning their not home-made - it's the sound refrigerator biscuits make when being opened!!!

Liberty wanted to add her own tasty tip..... "Everyone else gets donuts, and I'm stuck with  this?"

  1. YUM!!! It's been quite a few years since I've made these...and come to think of it I don't think I've ever done it with my children. Guess that means I'll be making these this weekend!

  6. I saw your link from Tasty Tuesday and thought it was so funny because growing up a dear friend called their canned biscuits "whop" biscuits. Because they "whop" it on the counter and it pops open. Love it!

  10. What a beautiful family you have! I make these from time to time, but I love the fun name you've given them. I can't quite remember what we call them... I think something like "fried canned biscuits". ;-)
