In honor of my beloved grandmother

Today would have been my Mamaw's 91st birthday.  I came across this poem the other day and I want to post it in honor of her.  She has been gone for over 11 years, yet she is still greatly missed.  Her laugh was so contagious, and her smile could lighten any room.  Home was her favorite place to be.  She loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren with her whole heart. She was so very dear to me, and I love her so much.

She Always Made Home Happy

 In an old church-yard stood a stone
Weather-marked and stained;
The hand of time had crumbled it,
So only part remained.
Upon one side I could just trace
"In memory of our mother";
An epitaph which spoke of home
Was chiseled on the other.

I've gazed on monuments of fame,
High towering to the skies;
I've seen the sculptured marble stone
Where a great hero lies;
But by this epitaph I paused
And read it o'er and o'er,
For I had never seen inscribed
Such words as these before.

"She always made home happy."
What a noble record left;
A legacy of memory sweet
To those she loved bereft;
And what a testimony given
By those who knew her best,
Engraven on this plain rude stone
That marked their mother's rest.

So then was stilled her weary heart,
Folded her hands so white,
And she was carried from the home
She'd always made so bright.
Her children raised a monument
That money could not buy,
As witness of a noble life,
Whose record is on high.

A noble life, but written not
In any book of fame;
Among the list of noted ones
None ever saw her name;
For only her own household knew
The victories she had won,
And none but they could testify
How well her work was done.

Stone Mountain Adventure!

Today we took a trip up to Stone Mountain! (thanks for the invite, dear sister!!) We have wanted to go there for some time now, but just hadn't committed ourselves to it. It was definitely an experience I will never forget.... at least I hope I don't. For one reason, we had a blast! The mountain is beautiful and once you are on top, the view is spectacular! And for #2, there are 2 ways of reaching the top... you can go by sky tram or you can walk. Adventurous amateurs that we are...(and I do speak for my self, thank you ) we chose the latter. It was definitely a hike, to say the least! My legs decided they didn't want any part of it about half way up... I have never experienced anything like it before. To put it bluntly, I am sorely out of shape!! But to spare you the details, we had a great time! Now I know why I you can buy coin boxes in the gift shop... so that you can save up your money to ride the sky tram next time you visit! If you would like to see a few pictures of our visit (and I do mean "few"...I didn't take as many as I would have liked) you can view them on my facebook album

He is Always With Us

As we remember the awful tradgedy that occurred on September 11, 2001, and those that lost their lives, let us never forget from where our life comes from. This is a day to also remember our Creator, that He is with us no matter what we face in this life. We came across this awesome video on YouTube that expresses it well. Make sure to turn up the volume!!

Once again on September 11

Six years ago today America and much of the world stood still. For several days we watched and prayed in silence. "Was this the beginning of more to follow" occupied our minds.

But once again, America cried out to God, our churches were full, and people were serious about being right with God. We united together in American pride and unity seeking to make this country strong and righteous once again.

But once again, we have forgotten the lessons we should have learned those six short years ago and have became complacent and forgetful.

On this day as we memorialize Patriot Day, let us stop and remember what can happen when God pulls back His protecting hand from us. And may those who are truly patriots rise up for God and country before we, like Lot, run out of time and lose it all.

Hall of Faith Christian Goes to be with the Lord

The passing of Dr. D. James Kennedy will go down as one of the saddest events in 2007. For Christians it will rank up there with one of the saddest days in American history.

One of our most faithful warriors has went on to be with the Lord. Although we rejoice that this great Pastor has entered into the presence of the Lord and Savior, we can’t but be sorrowful for our great loss.

We are saddened that we have lost one of the great communicators and administrators for the Christian faith. Dr. Kennedy was used greatly by God to be an ambassador of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ in America and throughout the world.

As Baptists we will feel the loss of one who proclaimed the historic Christian faith, promoted local and world missions, and pushed Christians back into the cultural wars. Words cannot express our sadness that his work down here is finished, nor can they express our joy that he has now entered into his rest.

We extend our condolences to the family, the congregation and the fellow-servants of Dr. D. James Kennedy.
